Texas Hill Country scenic drives through gentle rolling hills, limestone cliffs, bluffs, serene lakes and terrain cut by spring-fed rivers is a drive and a diverse culture of Mexican, Native American, Spanish, Italian and German influences. Drive your car, motorcycle or RV and enjoy the Hill Country views from north of Austin, continuing south to San Antonio, and highways sweeping and climbing west some 200 miles by following routes which lead to a series of colorful towns to visit, dine, shop, relax and entertain.


Highway 39 Hunt, Texas – Hwy 39 can be accessed via Hwy 27 west of Kerrville, TX or off of US 83 north of Leakey, TX

Texas Twister – Start out in Round Rock, TX. Head west on FM 1431 into Texas Hills country through the towns of Marble Falls and on to Kingsland, TX.

Texas Pig Path Ride – Start at the Quiet Valley Ranch south of Kerrville on TX 16. Go north to FM2771 and turn right (east), follow FM2771 to TX 173. Turn right (south) on TX 173 and go not more than one mile to Center Point River Road and turn left (east). Watch for the sign. Follow the River Road to Center Point. The burger/bar/aviary joint (Back Door Pottery) on the right, as you come into civilization, is a fun stop. Anyone of the next three lefts will take you to TX 27, turn right and go east to Comfort. As you come into town watch left for FM 473. Turn left (east) on FM473 and follow it until the good asphalt ends. FM473 will turn hard right but the route continues STRAIGHT (north) onto Old #9. Follow Old #9 until you pass Grapetown settlement, then watch for Luckenbach-Grapetown Road to the right as you come up the hill out of Grapetown. When you find Luckenbach-Grapetown Road, take a right (east) and take it all the way till it T’s into Luckenbach Road at which point you will take a right (southeast) and head into the route’s end point – Luckenbach, TX.

Gruene-Fredericksburg-Bandera Loop – Start in Bulverde, TX which is a town just about 30 miles due north of San Antonio. Head east on 1863 (2-Lane), which merges with Hwy 46 (4-Lane). Pay attention to the road signs as Hwy 46 will turn left after an underpass (If you’ve reached I-35, you’ve passed it). As you continue on Hwy 46, you will exit Rock St. and turn left at the sign to the Gruene Historical District. This road will take you to the center of Gruene.

Route 2: From Gruene, take Hwy 306 northwest, which takes you around Canyon Lake, until you get to Hwy 484 (N), which takes you to Hwy 32 and head west to Hwy 281, just outside of Blanco. Once in Blanco, turn left on Hwy 1623, which leads to Hwy 1888 and follow it until it ends at Hwy 1376 and make a right. You will pass Luckenback and continue on until you get to Hwy 290, where you will make a left and head into Fredericksburg.

Route 3: From Fredericksburg, take Hwy 16 through Kerrville, through Medina, and into Bandera. This is one of the most beautiful stretches of roads on this trip, with lots of hills, orchards, ponds, and lots of twisty turns and cut-backs.

Hippie Hollow Horror – Start your route in Four Points, TX which is just outside the north west side of Austin next to Lake Travis. From here just head west on Bulluck Hollow Road and it will T into FM FM 2769 – take a left (head west). Follow this road as it winds next to the lake and it changes names to Lime Creek Rd. The road will wind its way away from the lake and T into W. Whitestone Blvd. Take a left and now you’ll be heading west on FM 1431. Now you’re going to stay on this road for a while as it goes through Jonestown, Lago Vista, Smithwick, and finally takes you to the routes Marble Falls.

Texas Hill Country Twister – Start your route at Kerrville, TX which is about 50 miles NW of San Antonio, TX. Take HWY 16 south out of Kerrville and cross the Guadalupe River and continue on 16 heading all the way down to Bandera, TX about 38 miles.

The Three Sisters (AKA The Twisted Sisters)- Ranch Roads 335, 336, 337a – The Three Sisters route starts in Medina, TX. From Medina catch RR337 (at this point you are starting on “The Three Sisters”) heading west (right). Take RR337 west until you come up on the town of Leakey. At Leakey, go north on US 83 for a just about a mile and look for RR336 on the left. Take a left onto RR336 which will head you north. Continue north on RR336 until you meet Texas 41 and at this point you will want to turn left in order to head west. Go west for 15 miles or so and you will find RR335 on the left. Take a left (east) and get on RR335 and drive south down to Camp Wood where you can take a left on to RR337 and finish out the loop when you hit Leakey again.

Good Ol’ Texas Hills Loop – This route has a lot of different street changes. Start the route in Bandera Texas and head west on Route 16. Take 470 south (left) towards the town of Tarpley. Pass through Tarpley staying on 470 and next take Route 187 south towards Utopia. Next you want to take Route 1050 off to the right (west). Take 1050 till it intersects Route 83 which you want to take north (right). Continue on 83 to the town of Leakey where you will soon come up to a “Y” in the road and want to stay on 83 (veer right). Look for Route 39 off to the right and take 39 east towards the town of Waltonia. Route 39 eventually turns into Route 27 which you can take all the way into Kerrville. From Kerrville take Route 16 north all the way to into your final destination of Fredericksburg.

Centerpoint – Want to stop and have a glass of wine? Then take a scenic route to Singing Water vineyards. Via HWY 290Take US-290 W, TX-21 W, I-35 S, TX-1604 Loop W and I-10 W/US-87 N to Interstate 10 Frontage Rd in Kendall County. Take exit 527 from I-10 W/US-87 N, Continue on Interstate 10 Frontage Rd. Take Holiday Rd and Sky Line Dr to Mill Dam Rd. or Via Take I-10 W, TX-1604 Loop and I-10 W/US-87 N to Interstate 10 Frontage Rd in Kendall County. Take exit 527 from I-10 W/US-87 N, Continue on Interstate 10 Frontage Rd. Take Holiday Rd and Sky Line Dr to Mill Dam Rd.
