Spicewood, Texas is a small community located northwest of downtown Austin, less than an hour by car. The community may have gotten its name from the abundance of sassafras, or Spicewood, timber that grows along the nearby creek. The community is home to more than 7500 residents.
When visiting Spicewood, there are a variety of activities and tourist attractions that you can see. If you are an outdoors person, there are many activities to do. Most visitors spend some time on the water. Spicewood has a number of boat rental companies that can provide you with the vehicle you need to relax on Lake Travis. Here you can also go fishing. Here you can try to catch large mouth bass, white bass, striped bass, catfish and sunfish.
If you want to spend you days hiking, cycling or camping, Spicewood and the surrounding area have a number of parks and campsites that are perfect for the whole family. When you want a little more adventure, you can also schedule a horseback ride.

Spicewood benefits from being located near Lake Travis. There are a number of fun parks at local springs and watering holes. Krause Springs is just minutes away and offers swimming holes, rope swings and a beautiful waterfall with a hidden cave behind it. Hamilton Pool is also nearby and features a deep green pool fed by a 50-foot waterfall. The swimming is perfect in all the summer months.
Shopping is also fun to do in Spicewood. The Hill Country Galleria is a short drive away and features big-name stores and small specialty shops. Peppered with a number of fun and fancy restaurants, The Galleria is a great place to spend the day.
Not to be outdone by downtown Austin, Spicewood has a number of live music and nightlife destinations. The Backyard features some great local music along with some national acts, and there are some fun watering holes in the vicinity.
